DESCRIPTION

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a full-time, Assistant Dean, Health Careers/Registered Nursing Program Director.

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, 12 month per year Educational Administrator position. We are seeking an equity- minded person who is committed to supporting our diverse student population and the District Mission. Please review our District Mission, Goals, and Values.

This position reports to the Dean of Career Education. The Assistant Dean, Health Careers/Registered Nursing Program Director will serve as the BRN recognized Director of the Nursing Program and perform all of the duties associated with that role, including supervising and coordinating the nursing program in accord with applicable regulations, requirements, and policies. As an Assistant Dean, this position will oversee other health career related disciplines in addition to Nursing.

This includes the Mendocino College Licensed Vocational Nursing program. The successful candidate will supervise all RN and LVN faculty and staff. The LVN faculty includes a LVN Director who provides the day-to-day operational leadership.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The starting annual salary range is $142,578 - $149,707. There are six annual step movements; initial placement will be at step 1, unless approved by the Superintendent/President. Please see the current salary schedule here: MLCCD - Salary Schedule

Benefits: With no monthly premium contribution from the employee, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective the first of the month following hire date.

Holidays and Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn twenty-one (21) days of vacation and twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. Vacation leave increases with the length of service. There are twenty (20) paid holidays annually.

Retirement: This position is eligible for CalPERS OR CalSTRS Retirement.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The successful candidate will support institutional and student success with the completion of the following duties:

Duties as Assistant Dean, Health Careers:
  • Oversees selection, training and evaluation of full-time and part-time faculty, program managers and support staff; determines teaching assignments; provides general supervision including orientation, professional development, general assistance, determining priorities, resolving problems and coordinating/conducting evaluations.
  • Provides administrative oversight for assigned instructional programs including program review, program and curriculum development and staffing recommendations and capital outlay requests.
  • Supervises and promotes curriculum development by faculty to respond to student and community needs, including student learning outcomes, and ensures the assessment and use of those outcomes.
  • Assists with the institutional accreditation process and individual program accreditation processes as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Mendocino College Instructional Office to oversee faculty load assignment for individual programs as needed.
  • Develops and prepares grant applications, budgets, and reports for local, state, and federal grant-supported and district programs; follows up as necessary.
  • Oversees fiscal management of assigned instructional programs.
  • Represents the college to the public; establishes contact with the local community public agencies, school principals, counselors, teachers, business organizations, clinical partners, service organizations, and cultural entities.
  • Assists in the promotion and marketing of the college image and assigned instructional programs.
  • Establishes connections and partnerships with local businesses that support the programs.
  • Receives student, faculty, and other complaints and conducts appropriate follow-up.
  • Researches, analyzes and maintains information needed for instructional administration purposes; prepares a variety of reports; makes presentations; reviews legislation, code, policies, and procedures related to area of responsibility; apprises others of pending or needed changes to current practice.
  • Builds upon collaborative efforts locally and regionally with health care partners, other colleges, and the Mendocino Lake Adult and Career Education (MLACE) Consortium.
  • Promotes cooperative planning efforts among educational agencies and institutions in the District to improve articulation and planning of educational services and avoid duplication of services; takes the lead in development of articulation agreements with the high schools, including Programs of Study.
  • Arranges and facilitates advisory committee meetings; retains related records.
  • Represents the District at assigned local, regional, and state meetings; organizes and serves on committees as assigned; works evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of Career Education.
Duties as Registered Nursing Program Director:
  • Interprets registered nursing program requirements and objectives to administration and other relevant college departments and personnel; serves as liaison to facilitate student success.
  • Completes required reports and approval forms for the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Mendocino College and other constituencies; completes annual program reviews for College as well as taking primary responsibility for the total program review/recertification.
  • Facilitates the Mendocino College Registered Nursing Program Curriculum Review.
  • Monitors the registered nursing program for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and rules.
  • Prepares self-study report for BRN approval visit; the nursing program evaluation plan; and curriculum development, submits proposals for curriculum changes.
  • Responds to any recommendations from the BRN approval visit and leads the department in resolving those recommendations.
  • Determines teaching assignments, including clinical and classroom instructional load and continuing education, prepares the nursing class schedule, in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, assists with recruitment and selection of registered nursing program faculty including the determination and verification of required qualifications; submits faculty to BRN for approval.
  • Supervises all faculty in the nursing program including orienting new nursing faculty to the college, conducting or participating in faculty evaluations, facilitating faculty meetings, developing and supervising BRN remediation plan for nursing faculty.
  • Continues and builds upon collaborative efforts locally and regionally with health care partners, other colleges, and the Mendocino Lake Adult and Career Education (MLACE) Consortium.
  • Initiates and maintains contractual agreements and clinical schedules with community service agencies used as clinical sites for nursing students.
  • Evaluates the Registered Nursing Program through an equity lens.
  • Supports and oversees student recruitment and application activities; reviews and maintains any required student records; assists students with licensure applications.
  • Organizes and facilitates agenda, guest speakers, and instruction for student orientations and workshops.
  • Organizes program Content Area Expert recruitment and onboarding.
  • Facilitates other stipends or hourly compensation where appropriate.
  • Facilitates and enforces program safety requirements, including N95 Respiratory Fit Testing for all students and faculty.
  • Coordinates and submit results for annual reporting and surveys, including the BRN/UCSF School Survey
  • Issues certificates of completion for continuing education courses consistent with BRN regulations. Ensures currency and completeness of nursing program information in the college catalog and website.
  • Collaborates with faculty to review and approve the nursing program's textbook list with Library personnel to ensure breadth and currency of library resources.
  • Collaborates with other departments to prepare students for graduation, ensuring that all General Education and Institutional Requirements have been met.
  • Receives, reviews, and facilitates resolution of complaints for nursing program.
  • Completes other duties as legally required for the program.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Office, classroom, and clinical settings. May be required to travel to various clinical sites and Center Locations throughout Mendocino and Lake County. May be required to work evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must meet the minimum qualifications for faculty in California Community Colleges; Master's in Nursing OR Bachelor's in Nursing AND Master's in Health Education of Health Science OR the equivalent OR the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher.

Must meet the following minimum requirements of the Board of Registered Nursing (1425(a)) to work as a Director of a Professional registered Nursing Program:
The director of the program shall meet the following minimum qualifications:
